Because the ball is bigger, softer and lighter than a standard 40mm ball, you need to use a soft pips out rubber bat to play it. Using normal pips in sponged bat can be hard to control the ball. The advantage in choosing different bats and rubbers is therefore minimized.
The ball is a great equalizer in terms of skill and reflex speed required to play the game. Beginners can have more funs in longer rallys. You can spin the ball, hit pretty hard and high and it won't fly off the end of the table. Spin and speed are not as important a factor in differentiating players in large ball.
